An opportunity to explore in detail Othello (Otello), one of the most famous of all dramas. We will discuss both Shakespeare’s play and Verdi’s opera, with illustrations on DVD with large screen.
Bartley Lodge is a splendid Grade II listed country house hotel set in the heart of the New Forest, in eight acres of grounds. The facilities are well appointed and versatile, including 40 en-suite bedrooms and an indoor swimming pool. The Grand Baronial Hall will be the location for our meetings.
Terry Barfoot writes widely on music for Britain’s leading journals, orchestras, festivals and record companies. He lectures at venues throughout the country, is Publications Consultant to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Director of Arts in Residence. Karen Hewitt MBE teaches literature for Oxford University Department for Continuing Education. She also lectures in Russian universities, and publishes books and essays both on English literature and on what is happening in Russia.
Course members will arrive on Tuesday at 5pm and depart after tea on Thursday. Arts in Residence and the Bartley Lodge Hotel offer an excellent cuisine including dinners with wine. The event will end with tea on Thursday, but it will be possible to stay for an extra night at a special rate.
