Celebrating Vegetarian Cookery on both sides of the Channel!

National Vegetarian Week (20-26 May) is an annual awareness week promoting the benefits of a tasty meat-free lifestyle. It is organised by The Vegetarian Society, an educational charity working to support, represent and increase the number of vegetarians in the UK.   Established in 1847, it is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world.

Here at Ventenac we celebrated National Vegetarian Week slightly early, with our Vegetarian Cookery Course with Rachel Demuth and the Vegetarian Cookery School. Here are just a few images taken during another fantastic week.

For lunch we enjoyed dishes such as Olive & almond tapenade, leek tarts topped with goats cheese & thyme, cucumber with borage, tomatoes with basil, chicory, baby cucumbers, radishes, roasted asparagus with hollandaise. Dinner on the terrace included Sourdough bread, potato dauphinoise with french turnips, polenta with cooked batavia lettuce, tomato, red pepper & aubergine gratin, fennel roasted with lemon & sumac, beetroot with herbs & the hottest Aji chilli sauce!

The Vegetarian Cookery Course returns to Chateau Ventenac 5-9 May 2014. Send an email to julia@chateaulifecourses.com if you would be interested in receiving more details.

Meanwhile, the Vegetarian Cookery School in Bath will be getting involved with National Vegetarian Week from next Monday with special classes, events and offers – for more details visit www.racheldemuth.co.uk
