SUMMARY:15/235 Magic of Vienna: Part II with Julian Williamson
DESCRIPTION:\nStandard : All\nThis course picks up the story where Part One left off. From the age of Beethoven and Schubert\, the phenomenon of the waltz and the Strauss family we move on to look at the Biedermeier age and the volcanic effects of the 1848 revolution. We cover all the great musicians who flocked to work in the city – Rossini\, Paganini\, Liszt\, Wagner\, Nicolai – who founded the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. We will then follow the work of the many composers who made Vienna their home in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century – Brahms\, Mahler\, Schoenberg and others. By the time we have finished we will have witnessed a unique period in which this amazing city produced a continuous stream of wonderful music. \n\n \n
