This course is ideal for anyone who would like to create a website for an online-presence, for example to promote their business or themselves, or simply share their collected knowledge and wisdom. There will also be an opportunity to build an online store for the site, too.

Before creating your own free website account we will discuss your needs and begin planning how you will organise your site. Once your empty site is created you will discover how to select and adapt your own style, which settings are important, and then build your own web pages. This is a very user friendly process, but some computer competence is needed for you to enjoy the day. We will look at adding and editing text, images, videos, as well as free sources of media – images, videos and sounds, and discuss your rights and responsibilities under copyright law. We will also have a chance to see the statistics for your sites, and how you can encourage more visitors to your site. Finally you will have the opportunity to add a ‘store’ page to your own site in order to sell your own products from it.

We have wireless internet access, so make sure you bring along your own internet enabled laptop or Apple MacBook. The account will be linked to your email address, so make sure you bring that (although we can quickly make one if necessary), and if you would like to open a store page, the easiest option is to bring your PayPal account email. Bring any pictures or video files you might want to include (but there are many sources online which we will also use)

We will also have an opportunity to discuss when and how you might consider moving to a paid web hosting service.
