SUMMARY:Developing New Ideas from Old Textiles
DESCRIPTION:\nA two-day residential course on recycling textiles to create works of art in a quality hotel at Bristol. Your course starts with Friday dinner at 7 pm and runs through to Sunday afternoon tea\, but you can check in from 3 pm and take advantage of the hotel’s facilities before you meet your fellow students. Fees include an en suite double room for single occupancy\, tuition\, use of course room\, full board and refreshments\, along with free wifi\, and access to the fully equipped health club and indoor pool. Bedrooms have TV\, tea and coffee making facilities\, a desk and seating area for relaxing. The Hilton Bristol is by the junction of the M4 and M5 and close to Bristol Parkway Station. \nDiscover how to take raw materials and textiles\, and by applying a range of experimental techniques\, explore the qualities and characters of fabric and paper to express your individual designs. Here is a truly unconventional and creative textile course where you can develop your own unique ideas. Take a new look at ‘Green thinking’ and use found or discarded items to stimulate your creativity. This course is not just about recycling vintage and old fabrics. You will discover how to alter fabrics and raw materials by applying a variety of experimental techniques which explore the character and qualities of textiles and paper as a surface for work. The focus is on stitching as a means of making a mark which is then extended through various methods of attaching and joining. Produce your own ‘new works’ from outgrown or outlived clothing and fabric remnants along with unconventional vintage materials. You will learn how\, through the rich tradition of textiles and cloth\, you can create beautiful works of art\, giving you a unique way to express your designs and ideas. From a BA Honours degree in Fine Art\, Cas has spent a lifetime expanding her knowledge and refining her work in art and textiles. She has been a tutor in adult education for over 20 years\, is a practising community artist and has a particular interest in recycling and reusing items to create beautiful pieces of artwork. Cas was guest artist in 2012 at the Knitting and Stitching Show and at the European Patchwork Meeting in 2014. She exhibited with Art Textiles: Made in Britain at the Festival of Quilts 2014 and her latest book\, Stitch Stories\, published in 2015\, includes fabulous contributors and images. \n\n \n
