SUMMARY:Impressionist Collage and Stitch Textile course
DESCRIPTION:\nA weekend residential course on machine and hand embroidery in a three star hotel in Hertfordshire. Set in 55 rolling acres of countryside\, Theobalds Park is just a few minutes from the M25 and 20 minutes by fast train from London Liverpool Street. Course fees single occupancy en suite bedroom with TV\, free wifi and tea/coffee making facilities. Your course starts with supper on Friday evening and a brief introductory session\, and runs through Saturday and Sunday to afternoon tea. You can arrive from 3 pm on the Friday afternoon and enjoy a few hours relaxing and making use of the hotel facilities before your course begins. \nTake this opportunity to experience the process of combining the techniques of fabric collage with machine and hand embroidery to expand your skills while you develop wonderful pieces of textile art. Your tutor\, Richard\, has designed a Learning Pack which will be provided to you free of charge. Richard will guide you through this pack and enable you to start interpreting any designs you bring with you in a range of original and creative ways using your own materials. Bring a selection of coloured photos\, magazine pictures or drawings that appeal\, and these will act as your inspiration. Uncomplicated images are best\, especially those with clear distinctions of colours and tonal values. Also bring lots of small scraps of all kinds of fabrics in the colourways of your selected photos and pictures. Please Note: You should be able to drop or cover the feed dogs on your machine and have a darning foot. Please ensure that you have practised with this foot before the course so that you are happy with free machine embroidery. Richard is an artist and art historian. He has painted in oils and watercolours for many years and is now exploring acrylics. Concurrently he continues to develop his textile work which involves fabric collage with both machine and hand stitching. In short: he ‘paints’ with fabric and thread. Richard has written seven books on drawing\, design and embroidery\, and regularly runs workshops and gives lectures on drawing and textiles topics. \n\n \n
