SUMMARY:Jacobean Tree of Life - Crewel Work Embroidery
DESCRIPTION:\nA weekend residential course on traditional embroidery in the heart of the Midlands. Set in the heart of Northamptonshire\, Staverton Park is accessible from the M1\, M6\, M40 and Birmingham. This modern hotel with stunning grounds has its own PGA-standard 18 hole golf course. Other facilities include a leisure complex\, indoor pool\, sauna\, steam room and an on site beauty suite. Course fees include single occupancy en-suite bedroom with TV\, free wifi and tea/coffee making facilities. Your course starts with supper on Friday evening and a brief introductory session\, and runs through Saturday and Sunday to afternoon tea. You can arrive from 3 pm on the Friday afternoon and enjoy a few hours pampering yourself making use of the hotel facilities before your course begins. \nCrewel work is a very old\, traditional and historically important embroidery technique\, which can also be used with great success in modern design. Whether you are a newcomer or improver to embroidery\, if you want to expand your skills and learn some of the beautiful hand stitches available\, crewel work is the ideal technique with which to begin. It employs a wide variety of stitches which you can also use in other forms of embroidery. These stitches include stem\, chain\, satin\, long and short\, and laid work. Shaded effects and graduation of colour and tone are achieved in varying ways. Most crewel work designs are based on a Tree of Life which will contain numerous types of leaves and fruits. Using this basic design will enable you to learn a great variety of stitches over the weekend. \nPat Trott’s main passion in life is embroidery and stitchery of all kinds. She holds City and Guilds Creative Studies – Embroidery – Parts I and II\, and has had many pieces of her work selected for exhibitions\, both at home and overseas. Pat has many years’ experience of teaching adults including at such prestigious locations as Hampton Court. She has written books on Mountmellick embroidery and three dimensional stitches. \n\n \n
