Nationalism was a musical movement which began during the nineteenth century and continued to flourish well into the twentieth. Across the world it brought a rich and distinctive character to musical styles, for instance through folksongs and dances, in addition to the subjects chosen for operas and orchestral music. Our weekend will explore this rich repertoire, featuring many characteristic national idioms and of course a wide variety of wonderful music.
