SUMMARY:Prokofiev and the Ballet
DESCRIPTION:\nSergei Prokofiev composed the music for nine ballets\, across a period of nearly forty\nyears. Our weekend will explore his remarkable career and his various collaborations\nwith choreographers and designers. Our particular focus will be his tuneful\, dramatic\nand colourful masterpieces Romeo & Juliet and Cinderella\, but there will also be\nopportunities to explore other works besides. The music examples and performances\nwill feature excellent hi fi equipment including DVD with large screen. \nThe elegant and historic Georgian House Hotel is situated in Haslemere High Street\,\nand is set in attractive private gardens. With well-equipped modern and period\nbedrooms\, it has its own car park\, leisure spa and swimming pool.\nTerry Barfoot is director of Arts in Residence\, and writes widely on music for\nBritain’s leading journals\, orchestras\, festivals and record companies. He lectures at\nOxford and other universities\, and is Publications Consultant to the Bournemouth\nSymphony Orchestra. \nBridgett Vane trained as a professional dancer. She has been dance adviser to the\nSouthern Arts Association\, was a founder member of Southampton Dance Circle and\nwas highly involved with many other arts organisations. She brings to the course an\ninsight into the balletic aspects of ballets from a dancer’s perspective. \n\n \n
