DESCRIPTION:\nwith Terry Barfoot\, and a concert by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra \nWe will explore the music of Dmitri Shostakovich\, one of the greatest composers of the 20th\ncentury\, featuring some of his best loved works while exploring some less famous but equally\nrewarding compositions. There will be full programme notes and music examples on\nexcellent hi-fi equipment\, as well as an orchestral concert at Lighthouse in Poole\, the largest\narts centre in the UK outside London. \nThe four-star BEST WESTERN PLUS Connaught Hotel is located near the West Cliff in\ncentral Bournemouth. Built in 1850\, it has excellent facilities including a spa and an awardwinning restaurant. \nArts in Residence and the Connaught Hotel offer an excellent cuisine including wine with\ndinner and supper. The event will end on Thursday afternoon. \nTerry Barfoot writes widely on music for Britain’s leading journals\, orchestras\, festivals and\nrecord companies. He lectures at venues throughout the country\, is Publications Consultant to\nthe Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Director of Arts in Residence.\nThe Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is a world class orchestra with a proud history\nstretching back 120 years. Based at Bournemouth and Poole\, they perform regularly\nthroughout the South and West of England\, while their foreign tours have included concerts\nin Carnegie Hall New York\, the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. \n\n \n
