DESCRIPTION:\nDiscover the sewn craft of Soutache Braid on a weekend residential course in Bristol. Your course starts with Friday dinner at 7 pm and runs through to Sunday afternoon tea\, but you can check in from 3 pm and take advantage of the hotel’s facilities before you meet your fellow students. Fees include an en suite double room for single occupancy\, tuition\, use of course room\, full board and refreshments\, along with free wifi\, and access to the fully equipped health club and indoor pool. Bedrooms have TV\, tea and coffee making facilities\, a desk and seating area for relaxing. The Hilton Bristol is by the junction of the M4 and M5 and close to Bristol Parkway Station.  Discover the sensational sewn craft of Soutache which integrates silken braid\, cabouchons\, beads and other decorations to create stunning wearable embellished pieces.  Soutache is an elaborate textile craft dating from the 15th century. Seamstresses used a dual corded silken braid integrating sparkling cabouchons\, pearls and crystals to embellish and trim the luxurious clothes of the wealthy\, rich and famous. Today Soutache is seen as the decorative braid in the dress uniforms of service personal. No matter whether this craft is new to you\, or you have ventured into the wonderful world of Soutache before\, here is your opportunity to develop your skills.  You will produce a spectacular decorative piece\, while you relax for a couple of days\, meeting like-minded people and making friends. And you will leave with your own original example of this highly creative craft.   Your tutor\, Kleshna Handel\, will take you through a brief history of Soutache. You will then start your journey producing your own piece to take home. Soutache can be as complex or simple as you wish\, but the results will be exquisite.  Kleshna is an accomplished craftswoman whose work spans both historic and contemporary crafts. She is well known for her ‘can do’ approach when teaching students\, whatever their level of knowledge. \n\n \n
