Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) is one of the giants of music. In particular his symphonies are among the towering achievements of western man, from the romanticism of Nos. 1 and 2, through the austere power of the Fourth to the comprehensive unity of the single movement Seventh. During the course of the weekend we will feature all the
symphonies, and with the aid of musical and visual illustrations we will explore the relationship between the man and the music as his remarkable career developed.
The Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel is steeped in history, with beautifully designed rooms and antique furniture in the style of a country manor. There are several heritage rooms containing original 17th century features such as oak beds and fireplaces, along with magnificent views across the beautiful Vale of Usk, to the north of Newport.
