The ancient Egyptians believed that the first doorway to the Afterlife was the doorway of the tomb itself. This Course will look at the development of the Egyptian tomb from the Mastabas of the Old Kingdom, through the rock cut tombs of the New Kingdom, to the tombs of the Graeco-Roman period. The architectural development of the tomb will be considered in the light of changing religious beliefs, and we will look at the artwork the Egyptians considered essential to obtain entry into the Afterlife.
