Our weekend will feature music aspiring towards the eternal, in particular Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony and Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius. There will also be masterworks by Mendelssohn, Schütz, Gabrieli, Strauss and Stravinsky. The music examples will be played on excellent hi-fi equipment.

Set within 70 acres of parkland, Horsley Towers is a grand mansion built in 1828. The Great Hall will be the venue for our meetings, while there are also cloisters and an ornate classical chapel, as well as wonderfully appointed accommodation.

Terry Barfoot is director of Arts in Residence. He writes widely on music for Britain’s leading journals, orchestras, festivals and record companies. A well-known figure in the musical life of southern England, he lectures at Oxford and other universities, and is Publications Consultant to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra
