Benslow Music WinterFest
Listed on November 8, 2014 in Member NewsFor those of you who are not yet aware of who we are and what we do, Benslow Music is a thriving hot-bed of musical activity based in Hitchin, Herts. Our raison d’etre is to “promote music education for the public benefit through the study and practice of music, especially in its social and co-operative forms, among students of all ages” and throughout the year we offer an unparalleled programme of both residential and day courses, all of which are designed for amateur musicians.
Our courses cover a wide-range of musical genres including classical, jazz, folk and popular, and we have courses to suit (almost) any instrument and standard of playing. So no matter where you are in your musical progression, we are sure to have a course for you. And for those who do not play an instrument or sing, we also have a number of study weekends devoted to particular topics, so there really is something for everyone.
Alongside our programme of courses we are fortunate to be able to run a regular programme of concerts performed by world-renowned artists. As part of our regular concert series, this December we are hosting our “WinterFest” of four concerts. On 2 December we will be welcoming the London Klezmer Quartet with another programme of traditional Jewish folk-music, set in an informal atmosphere. On 5 December the Bingham Quartet return with pianist Nigel Clayton for a programme including Brahms’ remarkable Piano Quintet. On 10 December, the Tedesca Quartet give a concert including works by Haydn, Schumann and Mozart, and the WinterFest ends with the Fidelio Trio on 12 December with a contrasting programme including Beethoven, Michael Nyman and Saint-Saëns, not to be missed! All concerts begin at 8pm and tickets for each concert are available to book in advance or to purchase on the door for £12, and anyone under the age of 25 get in for free! Our 2014-2015 concert series will continue in the new year with a varied programme including more internationally acclaimed string quartets alongside jazz, folk and early music. Please see our website for details.
This Christmas we are also offering a Christmas menu. Bring your friends and colleagues to Benslow Music this Christmas and enjoy the ambience of the Victorian house set in four acres of stunning gardens. On arrival, you will be greeted with mulled wine and mince pies in front of our roaring log fire, followed by a three course meal in our dining room. And to enhance the experience there will be live chamber music playing. Booking is now open so to reserve your table for friends, family or work colleagues, please book soon to avoid disappointment.
