Nineteenth century Russian music was dominated by two composers – Tchaikovsky in Moscow and Rimsky-Korsakov in St Petersburg. This course is centered round the latter composer – looking at his life and brilliantly colourful music – and the influence he had on the following generations of composers – but you will also listen to his contemporaries Tchaikovsky – Taneyev – Borodin – Rachmaninoff and Scriabin.
