Tension is what happens when we actively stretch or feel pressured. An accumulation of tension builds up into stress, distress and breakdown. “Advanced sleeping” is a concept familiar to ancient yogis (who called it pratyahara). It enables us to connect and communicate with our essential life activities (such as breathing, digestion, movement – and sleeping). You may spend much of the weekend relaxing, learning to recognise the effects of tension and how to let go of discomfort and disturbance in mind and body. Advanced sleeping gives us “breathing space”, both figuratively and literally. Don’t we all need some space and time for ourselves?
