Summer School in Somerset

Summer School has just finished and it has been a great success. There is a lot to be said for getting away from your desk and the tyranny of e-mails to experience the business from other perspectives. This August I have been up to my elbows in running the three weeks of Summer School including the new venture of Summer School Active. The considerable benefit for me is the occasion of getting really close our students (aka our customers) and engaging in those conversations that lie beyond social pleasantries. Here you hear about individual concerns and anxieties as well engaging in the pleasure of really positive experiences. As some of you will know, I also taught a couple of courses and did some talks strangely labelled as ‘entertainment’. Standing in front of a paying public reinforces what I know to be the challenge of teaching adults and given that we engage dozens of tutors every year it is useful to know what it’s like standing in their shoes.

But now it’s back to the day job and the wretched e-mails. Hey ho!
